Description of Tool or App

Yodio is a Web 2.0 tool that allows you to combine uploaded visual elements with pre-recorded sounds either via phoned in audio, recorded via computer microphone, or through already uploaded mp3 files. These multimedia productions are easy to create and easy to embed in social networking sites as well as on websites. They are as versatile in topics as they are in functionality.

The main page states that yodios can be utilized in multiple ways both personally and professionally. In the personal realm they can be a way to create a mini-scrap book with audio of a big event or as an audio postcard for friends and family. Within the business realm, it is a more cost efficient means of audio/visual advertisement for products, real estate, and companies on their website.

How To Use Tool or App

Accessing this tool is easy as you go to the site www.yodio.com . Creating a logon and password is also easy as it simply requires a valid email address and for you to make up a password. This tool is a sequencing audio and visual presentation site. It allows you to create a photo story primarily with uploaded pictures and your own recorded audio. There are also stock images (exactly two of these so you are better off with your own images) and multiple stock sounds that range from the silly and animal variety to the musical and travel sounds. You can upload other mp3 files for audio as well as call in and make your own audio tracks. Once you create your account, the site gives you a number so that you can call in your audio bites. With each audio bite, the time of the audio is recorded with a date stamp. You can also add other cell phone numbers easily to your account and identify the user with a greeting which will probably be by name.

Upon uploading visual and audio files, creating a presentation via Yodio is as easy as click and drag to the appropriate box. If you are using audio first, the box you drag it to changes color to “lead” you to the proper place. The same is true of the visual files. Combining audio and visual in the presentation is not difficult as after you have clicked and dragged, it is combined. To add another image, you need to state if you want to add another track, which may be confusing terminology for students, but can easily be remedied via teacher instruction. After completing a Yodio, you have the options of making it public or private and posting via an embed code. This makes it easier to be viewed as you can embed the code on your website or moodle.
